http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/20/books/20sheed.html?ref=books The above URL is for the NEW YORK TIMES obituary for the novelist and literary critic Wilfrid Sheed. Why is he relevant to H-LAW? Because, in his 1980 collection of essays THE GOOD WORD AND OTHER WORDS, Sheed wrote several essays that set forth, with grace, wit, modesty, and clarity, everything that one needs to know about how to write a book review -- wisdom applicable to scholarly reviewing as well as to reviewing for such publications as THE NEW YORK TIMES. Anyone who in his or her work has to write book reviews should look up THE GOOD WORD AND OTHER WORDS and read Sheed's essays on the craft of reviewing. They will enrich your life and your work, as they did mine. Respectfully submitted, R. B. Bernstein -- R. B.
