Dear H-Net Reader: For almost three years H-Net and the Organization of American Historians have been working together to advance the professional needs of teachers and scholars in American history by encouraging a national, professional conversation about the impact of the Teaching American History program on academic and public historians. We have cosponsored two very well-attended symposia at the annual meetings of OAH in 2006 and 2007 that, in the spirit of interdisciplinary and cross-professional dialogue, have brought together stakeholders from public schools, universities, government, historical agencies, and heritage sites. H-Net has also assisted through the establishment of H-TAH, its network on the TAH program. If you find these kinds of partnerships useful and worth continuing, we hope you will consider joining the Organization of American Historians, the leading professional association and learned society in our field. OAH publishes the leading scholarly journal in the field, the JOURNAL OF AMERICAN HISTORY, and brings together nearly 3,000 American historians each spring at its annual conference in a major U.S. city. OAH also publishes the OAH MAGAZINE OF HISTORY, for teachers of the American history survey at the precollegiate and college levels. The quarterly OAH NEWSLETTER, delivered electronically and in paper, provides you news of the profession and commentary by historians and others on the latest developments in research, teaching and advocacy. We would like to call your attention to one of the most significant benefits of membership, RECENT SCHOLARSHIP ONLINE. OAH members can receive free monthly automated email updates on all recent scholarship (books, articles and dissertations) produced in their specific areas of interest by subscribing to RSO. Members are able to search citations from more than 1,000 history-related publications, and create a "session bibliography" that combines the results of multiple searches into a single list. With 100 years of experience, OAH stands ready to provide historians and the wider public with a deeper understanding of our nation's past. We hope you will take this opportunity to visit us at http://www.oah.org/members/mbrinfo.html and consider joining today's leading organization in the world dedicated to excellence in American history. We know you'll be glad you did. Sincerely, Lee W. Formwalt, Executive Director Organization of American Historians Peter B. Knupfer Executive Director H-Net
