I did my master's thesis on witchcraft trials in the pueblos de indios of Honduras during the 17th century, and I conducted research in the Honduran National Archive. This was 9 or 10 years ago, so conditions at the archive may have changed since then, but at the time it was well organized, with a helpful staff, and a relatively large collection of colonial documents (compared to other national archives in Central America). I found Maria de los Angeles Chaverri, at the National University, to be quite knowledgeable about the collection at the archive. Before you go to Honduras you should consult: Pan American Institute of Geography and History. _Honduras: Guia de los documentos microfotografiados por la Unidad Movil de Microfilm de la UNESCO._ Mexico, 1967. Perhaps two-thirds of the colonial documents were microfilmed and are catalogued in this publication. If you can find a library that will lend you the films you might perhaps avoid a trip to the archive altogether. Michael S. Cole, University of Florida, Dept. of History.
