Can you please help solve a riddle that I think is based on American labor history? In Maywood , Illinois there is an old building. Etched high on the face of that building is an abbreviation with two lines: C.T.C. & H.V. OF M. & V. <= first line LOCAL 782 <= second line What do the abbreviations exactly stand for? I assume that the building was once the hall for a "local" of a larger organization but I do not know. Many years ago there was an American Can Company plant within 1000 feet of this building. Again I assume that the the abbreviation is for some labor organization that had a connection with the canning industry. I am a private citizen who possesses a curiosity but have no academic credentials. But I thought someone on the H-net may have a an encyclopedic knowledge of abbreviations or American labor organizations and would know the correct meaning of the abbreviation on the face of th building. Thank you, Royse Cramton Oak Park, Illinois
