H-Judaic is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Michael Rosenak (1932-2013), Mandel Professor of Jewish Education, Emeritus, at the Hebrew University and head of the Department of Education and Jewish Education at the Mandel Jerusalem Fellows Program. Born in Bremen and raised in the United States, Prof. Rosenak made aliyah in 1958 and became one of the foremost philosophers of Jewish education of our time. His books include TEACHING JEWISH VALUES (1986), COMMANDMENTS AND CONCERNS (1987), ROADS TO THE PALACE (1995), AND COVENANT AND COMMUNITY (2013). A festschrift in his honor appeared in 2006. For more on Prof. Rosenak's highly influential work, see http://www.mli.org.il/visions/Library/Pages/Michael+Rosenak+Educated+Jews.htm and the Hebrew Wikipedia article http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%99%D7%9B%D7%90%D7%9C_%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%96%D7%A0%D7%A7 We extend deepest sympathies to his widow, four children, including H-J reader Prof. Avinoam Rosenak, and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
