Sent: 24 November 2012 15:09 I have been enjoying reading the exchange on hair removal. This reminded me of a Japanese TV (sports/entertainment) show. On the show, Japanese professional soccer players playing in Europe (Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and UK leagues) talked about their experiences of playing in Europe. One of them mentioned that he had to shave his pubic hair in order to adjust to his new environment, and the rest of them also had the same experience as him. Once all the players started playing in Europe, they were told by their European team mates to shave their pubic hair because according to them, keeping public hair unshaved was not clean or hygienic. This surprised the host and the audience. Generally speaking, hair removal or hair grooming is considered feminine in Japan. Removing pubic hair is not a common practice although there are some Japanese women who shave their pubic hair. It is very uncommon for men to shave their pubic hair. The story of these pubic-hairless soccer players shocked many viewers as male soccer players are perceived as masculine men. I don't know if this is relevant to the topic, but I thought it might interest some of you. Masako Endo mendo@binghamton.edu
