Sent: 17 October 2012 14:53 Thanks so much Michelle Martinez for that reference to the Times and Record, a medical journal published in Philadelphia. I've added the following to the entry to OutHistory.org: Medical journals in the U.S. started using the term "homosexual" a few years earlier than the newspapers. See for example: Times and Register (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania): "Homosexual inclinations," October 19, 1895 The entry is at: http://outhistory.org/wiki/Times_and_Register_(Philadelphia,_Pennsylvania):_%22Homosexual_inclinations,%22_October_19,_1895 I don't have access to Proquest so I'd love somebody to fill in more details on OutHistory.org about the above item. OutHistory is a wiki, so all you do is log on and edit. I've now also distinguished between "newspapers" and "medical journals" and other periodicals in the entry: http://outhistory.org/wiki/Omaha_Daily_Bee_(Omaha,_Nebraska):_%22homo-sexual,%22_December_16,_1898 If you know of other early references please add them to OutHistory.org.
