Sent: 19 September 2011 13:56 Meet the Historian: Jeffrey Weeks Monday 3rd October2011, 6-8pm Bloomsbury Room (Room G35), Senate House London, History Lab, the national network for postgraduate historians, in UK are pleased to announce the latest in our Meet the Historian series of events . ‘Meet the Historian’ events are an opportunity for history postgraduates to hear at first hand from noted historians how and why they became historians in the first place, their thoughts on research and the discipline generally, and about their latest work. There will be the chance to ask questions and enter into discussion, and to join the speaker for drinks after the talk. Jeffrey Weeks is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at London South Bank University. He is the author of over 20 books and more than 100 articles and papers, chiefly on the history and social organisation of sexuality, family and intimate life. His books include Coming Out (1977), Sex, Politics and Society (1981, 3rd edition 2012), Sexuality and Its Discontents (1985), Invented Moralities (1995), Making Sexual History (2000), The World We Have Won (2007), Sexuality (3rd edition 2009) and The Languages of Sexuality (April 2011). He has been an editor of History Workshop Journal and on the editorial boards of, among others, Victorian Studies, Gender and History, Journal of the History of Sexuality, Journal of Homosexuality and Sexualities. Refreshments will be provided. There is no fee and booking is not necessary. History Lab is the national network for postgraduate and early career researchers in history and related disciplines. History Lab and its sister organisation, History Lab Plus, are run under the auspices of the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. Membership is free for all registered MA, MRes, MPhil and PhD students at UK higher education institutions - non-UK postgraduate students are also welcome to join our network.
