Sent: Friday, August 26, 2011 9:34 AM Laura, This is an important and thoughtful piece. Thank you for posting. While this piece focuses on the United States, I know that there are ongoing human rights efforts to challenge the requirement for intersex Australians and women who were designated 'Male' to be placed on a sex offender registry prior to being able to access testosterone-suppressing Androcur medication: http://carnalnation.com/content/35533/898/intersex-australians-must-join-sex-offender-registry-get-medication The medication is also used for prostate cancer. Forced registration as 'sex offenders' by people who are not sex offenders inflates estimates and also misleads some researchers to suggest a link between intersex and criminality or between self-designated gender and criminality. Forced 'sex offender' registration through withholding medication to already underserved populations is discriminatory and violates people's human rights. Gavi -- Mr Y.
