[Apologies for x posting - Hera List editor.] From: Critical Sexology [mailto:CRITSEX@JISCMAIL.AC.UK] On Behalf Of Aicken, Catherine Sent: 02 July 2011 01:17 Hi Lesley, Since you wrote your original manuscript, Britain's (including Scotland!!) second national probability survey of sexual behaviour was conducted (National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, 'Natsal-2'), in 1999-2001. From this you can get some quantitative data on trends. The initial publications from Natsal-2 - which also look at changes between the first (1990-91) and second Natsal - are: Johnson, AM, Mercer, CH, Erens, B, Copas, AJ, McManus, S, Wellings, K, Fenton, KA, Korovessis, C, Macdowall, W, Nanchahal, K, Purdon, S, Field, J Sexual behaviour in Britain: partnerships, practices, and HIV risk behaviours. Lancet, 2001: 358; 1835-1842 Wellings, K, Nanchahal, K, Macdowall, W, McManus, S, Erens, B, Mercer, CH, Johnson, AM, Copas, AJ, Korovessis, C, Fenton, KA, Field, J Sexual behaviour in Britain: early heterosexual experience. Lancet, 2001: 358; 1843-1850 ... and there are many other publications from both surveys that you can find in the links at the bottom of this page http://www.ucl.ac.uk/sexual-health/research/sex-attitudes.htm The paper on early heterosexual experience may be particularly interesting in looking back at change in this, over time, as respondents of all ages were asked about this, hence we can look at the age and circumstances of first heterosexual sex for respondents in birth cohorts dating back many decades. The third Natsal is currently in the field due to report in 2013 (I think) - though your publisher might not want to wait that long! Best wishes, Catherine ________________________________ From: Critical Sexology [CRITSEX@JISCMAIL.AC.UK] On Behalf Of Brian Dempsey [bd010y6262@BLUEYONDER.CO.UK] Dear Lesley, Some of the materials listed at www.linsert.org<http://www.linsert.org/> may be relevant. As you note in your introduction _Sex, gender and social change in Britain since 1880_ "Britain" and "England" are not synonyms ("Scotland" appears in the index with all of two entries - even more telling, England doesn't appear in the index at all!). Yours Brian
