To: "H-Net Network on American communism and anticommunism" <H-HOAC@H-NET.MSU.EDU> Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 11:57 AM Subject: Re: DEBS SPOKEN WORD (Davenport) The recording in question, an edited version of Debs' article, "Winning a World" from Wilshire's Magazine, November 1905, is discussed in an article by Frederic Cornell, "Deception on a Disc," in the Bulletin of the Tamiment Library, no 30, November 1961; and in several notes in the Bulletin, no. 28, December 1960. As early as 1940 Debs' brother Theodore pointed out that the voice on the recording was not Gene's -- but admirers have persisted in the hope and belief that Debs' voice was preserved.
