Dear List Members, The City Council of Augsburg is planning to close their library and disperse the holdings. This library contains collections dating to the beginnings of the city, gathered from the Cathedral and various families and religious orders, over centuries. The following website gives the details, unfortunately at present only in German: < http://www.rettet-die-stabi.de/index.html >. Under the tab, "Helfen Sie bitte!" you can find options, either writing directly to the city authorities, or, at the lower hyperlink, writing to those who are organizing opposition to the closing and dispersal. Some time ago, I asked this list to help with the Augsburg City Archives. Because of the outpouring of your support, the City Council has now allocated funds for a new home for the archive, which will both protect the collections and offer scholars far more comfortable seating, when the Archive moves to its new home, perhaps as early as 2012. I am hoping, very much, that this list can do the same for one of the great historical libraries in Europe. Thank you, Lee Palmer Wandel University of Wisconsin
