The judges said his analysis of the differences between Union and Confederacy strategies "is displayed here in strong, vibrant language and his comparison of the Lincoln and Davis administration's implementation of these strategies is well-researched and highly detailed." The committee noted Stoker's book is a pleasure to read and said it "will be the standard for all future writings on Civil War strategy for many years to come." Committee members are past presidents Bud Livingston chairman, Patrick Falci and Leonard Rehner.
