Dear All, This is to give you advance notice that there will be a conference at the Old Royal Naval College, University of Greenwich on May 16th, c9.30-5 p.m. entitled, "Play, Toys, War and Conflict". There will also be a networking event in the evening to which all are welcome. The conference relates the themes of our centre, and the "Multi-Cultural Toys" project. to the ongoing commemoration of the outbreak of World War I. Papers are invited that engage with any form of play, toys, war and conflict, from children's competition over playthings, to war games, the psychological value of enacting conflicts, the therapeutic as well as artistic value of the arts, and play as a survival strategy in war time. A more formal Call for Papers will be sent soon, but any offers of papers on these themes, to this e-mail address playandrecreation@greenwich.ac.uk, are very welcome. Looking forward to seeing many of you in May.
