The issue contains the following papers: - Pauline Rule, 'The transformative effect of Australian experience on the life of Ho A Mei, 1838-1901, Hong Kong community leader and entrepreneur' - Paul Macgregor, 'Chinese political activity in colonial Victoria: Lowe Kong Meng and the election of July 1880' - Marilyn Lake, 'The Chinese Empire encounters the British Empire and its “Colonial Dependencies”: Melbourne, 1887' - Mark Finnane, 'Law as politics: Chinese litigants in Australian colonial courts' - Mei-fen Kuo, 'Confucian heritage, public narratives and community politics of Chinese Australians at the beginning of the twentieth century' - Amanda Rasmussen, 'The rise of Labor: A Chinese-Australian participates in Bendigo local politics at a formative moment, 1904-1905'. These papers developed from the Dragon Tails Chinese Australian history and heritage conference held at the Chinese Museum, Melbourne, Australia, in November 2011.
