August 2014 ******************************************************************* From: H-Net Announcements <announce@MAIL.H-NET.MSU.EDU> Location: United States Workshop Date: 2014-01-15 (in 23 days) Date Submitted: 2013-11-14 Announcement ID: 208597 2014 Chinese Object Study Workshops: Call for Student Applications Chinese Object Study Workshops is a pilot program that will provide graduate students in Chinese art history with an immersive experience in the study of objectsin particular, those belonging to the great collections of Chinese art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Freer|Sackler). There will be two workshops in 2014: Seeing Chinese Paintings, June 9-13, 2014, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Zhe School Painting, August 25-29, 2014, Freer|Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian Institution Workshop members will spend the week engaged in intensive object study, discussion, and research with a small group of other graduate students, two faculty members, and curators and conservators from the host museum. Afterward, they will complete a research project based on an object or objects they encountered and present it at the final student conference in November or December 2014. To Apply: The program is open to students enrolled in a graduate art history program at a North American university and pursuing a doctoral degree in Chinese art. Graduate students from other art history-related programs and/or working closely with Chinese art objects are also welcome to apply, although the priority will be given to those in art history programs. Applicants may be of any nationality and may apply for more than one workshop. Transportation, lodging, and some meal support will be provided.
