H-ASIA December 16, 2013 MA in East Asian Studies, University of Alberta ****************************************** From: Anne Commons <acommons@ualberta.ca> Dear Colleagues, We would like to draw your attention to opportunities for students to pursue a Master of Arts degree in East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; http://www.eastasianstudies.ualberta.ca/). Graduate students in our department can focus on any of the following areas: Chinese Linguistics/Pedagogy Chinese Literature Japanese Linguistics/Pedagogy Japanese Literature Japanese Cultural Studies East Asian Art History East Asian Religion East Asian Studies In particular, the department has research strengths in: Chinese Linguistics/Pedagogy Japanese Linguistics/Pedagogy Premodern Japanese Studies Premodern Chinese Studies Tuition costs at the University of Alberta are very reasonable compared to those at other North American universities, and we are able to offer funding to several of the most promising students in each year’s intake, generally in the form of teaching assistantships. Though we currently offer a thesis-based MA, an interdisciplinary PhD in conjunction with other programs is also possible for qualified applicants. The deadline to apply to our graduate program for Fall 2014 entry is 15 January 2014.
