FFC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: H-Net Job Guide: JOB GUIDE NO.: University of British Columbia, Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies Assistant Professor in Early Islamic Studies Institution Type: College / University Location: British Columbia, Canada Position: Assistant Professor University of British Columbia Faculty of Arts Assistant Professor in Early Islamic Studies Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Early Islamic Studies in the Department of Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies (CNERS) in the Faculty of Arts, University of British Columbia. The position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. It is intended that the successful applicant will conduct research and teach courses broadly in the area of early Islamic religion and culture down to around 1100 CE. An ability to teach the Quran and other early Islamic religious texts is essential. Candidates should already have completed their PhD and should be able to demonstrate excellence both in research and in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, graduate supervision, teaching, and service. The expected start date of the appointment is July 1st 2011.
