Candidates must have a PhD in hand at the time of appointment (August 2011) and provide evidence of excellence in scholarly achievement and teaching. The appointment will be made initially in an appropriate existing department, pending the expected creation of a department of Asian studies that the successful candidate will join. The position requires teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels on topics ranging from the religious traditions of Korea and East Asia to surveys of Korean and Asian history, civilization, society, and culture; maintaining a solid and productive research program; and providing service to the department and university. Additionally, the new hire will work with the Asian Studies Program staff and other units at UB to plan Korea-related lectures and performances and promote the development of Korean studies at the university. Teaching, salary, and privileges competitive with other research intensive AAU universities. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on January 31, 2011.
