President C.L. Max Nikias established the U.S.-China Institute to focus on the multifaceted and evolving U.S.-China relationship. The Institute reflects the universitys commitment to fostering path-breaking social science research in this broadly-defined field and aims to be among the worlds most influential voices on the many issues involving U.S.-China relations. USCI draws together researchers from across the university and is a catalyst for the recruitment of top scholars and students. USCI also creates innovative educational programs for students and hosts postdoctoral fellows, distinguished visiting scholars, officials, journalists, and business leaders. Building USCI is a strategic priority for the university. A $2 million gift endowing the directors chair has already been secured. USC quintupled its endowment over the last decade and is now launching its largest ever fund-raising campaign. Candidates for the directorship must have a distinguished record of accomplishment in research, writing, and public service and have the appropriate credentials for a tenured academic appointment. The director will work closely with the USCI executive committee and staff in addition to the Institutes boards of scholars and advisors. Nominations and expressions of interest are welcome. They should include a letter, C.V., and contact information for three references. The search committee will be reviewing applications and applications submitted before February 28, 2011 will be given full consideration.
