We invite papers which will address the intersections between the sacred and the secular in some of the following ways: a) as represented in literature, film, music, performance and art; b) in the regulatory discourses of science, medicine, business, economics, and law; c) through local practices; d) gender discourses. The conference will provide a forum for discussion between academics, artists, activists and film-makers. Keynote Speakers: Edward Kamau Braithwaite (New York University) Sumathi Ramaswamy (Duke University), Kajri Jain (University of Toronto), Ananda Abeysekara (Virginia Tech). Writers include: Nadeem Aslam (author of Maps for Lost Lovers), Monica Arac de Nyeko (winner of the Caine Prize 2007, Tahmima Anam (author of The Golden Age)and Aamer Hussein (author of Cactus Town).
