H-ASIA May 9, 2007 Reminder for Contributors, China in an Era of Transition, May 29 deadline ******************* From: Jennifer Hsu <jyjh2@cam.ac.uk> Dear H-Asia Members, This is a reminder call for interested parties to submit proposals for "China in an Era of Transition: Understanding Contemporary State and Society Relationships". The deadline is 29 May 2007. Please see the following announcement for details. Regards, Jennifer Hsu University of Cambridge Call for Contributors (Deadline 29 May 2007) Title: China in an Era of Transition: Understanding Contemporary State and Society Relationships Edited by Reza Hasmath and Jennifer Hsu, University of Cambridge Timed with an organized panel at the International Convention of Asian Scholars (Kuala Lumpur), this edited collection will focus on China's state society relationship in an era of social transition. The overall aim will be to understand how state-society relationship has evolved since China implemented its economic liberalization policies in 1978; and what shape this relationship is at present and potentially in the future. Contributors are invited, but not limited, to explore the following themes: - Development of Chinese Civil Society (incl. Community Associations, NGOs, GONGOs) - State Power and Social Forces - Chinese Public Sphere - Society's Relationship with Various Levels of Government, eg. Central, Provincial, Municipal, etc. - Responses from Various Sectors of Society to the Changing Nature of the State - Strategies or Policies Communities and the State have Developed for Engagement Research employing either quantitative or qualitative methods are welcomed. To contribute to the collection, please send an abstract of no more than 500 words and a short professional brief by 29 May 2007 (Tuesday) to: Reza Hasmath rh376@cam.ac.uk Jennifer Hsu jyjh2@cam.ac.uk All accepted contributions (7,000 words) will have to be completed by 1 November 2007 and will follow a stringent peer review process thereafter; with a view for publication in Spring 2008.
