H-ASIA April 18, 2007 Asian Publishing in English *********************************************************************** From: Paul Kratoska [npupaulk@nus.edu.sg] There is growing pressure on scholars working in the top universities of a number of Asian countries to publish in English. There are some obvious reasons for doing so: broadening the reach of research findings, communicating with other scholars with similar interests (not just in English speaking countries but across Asia as well), building international reputations to attract students, and so on. I am interested in what members of H-ASIA may have observed relating to this trend. Any thoughts would be welcome, but I am particularly interested in knowing whether the topics and issues discussed in national-language publications differ from those presented in English-language publications, and if so, in what way. Thank you. Paul Dr Paul H.
