The Department of History at Furman University invites applications for a one-year, full-time position in either African or Southeast Asian history to begin Fall 2007. The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in hand, or at least be ABD with significant progress towards completing the dissertation. The teaching load for the position will be five courses over three quarters, normally taught as a 2-1-2, and the customary cap on our courses is 20-25 students. The likely courses for either position would consist of two upper-division surveys in either African or Southeast Asian history, and one upper-division course of the candidate's choosing. The other two courses would be the department's survey that is taught by every member of the department, History 11, "History of the Modern Era."
