BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment. The Department of Social Studies seeks to expand its college elective offerings into disciplines we do not currently cover (anthropology, sociology or non-western history) and/or in non-Western fields (African, Asian or Middle Eastern Studies). The successful candidate will teach the 10th grade Global Studies course as well as college electives and seminars in his or her field of expertise. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including advising students and serving on committees. Preference will be given to candidates whose training and research are interdisciplinary and cross-cultural. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred; doctoral candidates nearing completion of their degrees will be considered as well. College teaching experience is required. The position offers the opportunity to work as a member of a dedicated faculty, most of whom hold doctorates in their fields. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience. Qualified and interested applicants should send a letter of interest (including a description of courses you propose to teach), curriculum vitae and teaching portfolio (including evaluations and teaching philosophy) to the address provided below. Inquiries may be directed via email to search@bhsec.bard.edu. Applications must be received by mail or email by May 11, 2007. Review of applications will begin immediately. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
