H-ASIA April 7, 2007 Resource: Scholarly e-mail group and bibliography on Crime, Policing, Punishment and Empire--primarily, but not exclusively, British Empire (x-post H-Empire) ************************************************************************ From: John L. Knight <johnlknight@gmail.com> Crime, Policing, Punishment and Empire. Please could I bring listmembers' attention to the below group devoted to crime, policing, punishment and empire. http://groups.google.com/group/policing-empire This group is dedicated to that small (but growing!) number of scholars and students working on crime, policing and punishment in Empire. Although aimed at those working on the British Empire, anyone working on any other area and era are encouraged to join and participate. Not only is this intended as a forum for exchanging ideas and interacting with other scholars working in the field, but I hope it will also become a comprehensive bibliographical resource. I have already created, I think, quite a large bibliography at the below link http://groups.google.com/group/policing-empire/web However, it is, at the moment heavily weighted towards policing, reflecting as it does my own research interests. I hope to expand the coverage of crime and punishment. If anyone has any suggestions, please either email me direct or post to the new group. Where it is not obvious from the title of the citation what the connection is with crime, policing or punishment, please could I ask that a very brief annotation is added along the following lines: Fuchs, Ron. 2002. Public works in the Holy Land: Government building under the British Mandate in Palestine, 1916-48. In Louise Campbell, ed.Twentieth-century Architecture and its Historians, 275-307. London, [Includes details on police station construction]. Also, it would be useful to distinguish memoirs in the bibliographies, with the following simple annotation:- [police memoir] [prison officer memoir] [prisoner memoir] To subscribe to the group, send email to policing-empire-subscribe@googlegroups.com To post to the group, send email to policing-empire@googlegroups.com Even if you do not wish to join the group, perhaps you could bookmark the group, and send me any new publications, so I can keep the bibliography up to date.
