Editor TK McLennon is currently seeking original contributions from Black women who live, work and/or study in East Asia for a groundbreaking collection of non-fiction short stories. Submissions must be 2000 to 5000 words and may include topics such as work, family, cross cultural issues, personal finance, spirituality, health, gender, race, safety, relationships and repatriation. This anthology, published by Excelovate Press, will be the first book in a series of personalized, first-hand, non-fiction stories about people whose unique voices may often get drowned out by non-constructive stereotypes. The objective for this inaugural anthology is to collect diverse stories from Black women who are blazing trails, building lives and having experiences in unexpected parts of the world. Writers may be current or former expatriates; in other words they must currently or have previously lived in an East Asian country, namely: China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and/or any of the ASEAN (southeast Asian) countries. All submissions should be creative non-fiction and/or travel memoir stories reflecting the writer’s contemporary, personal experience in East Asia. Well-written stories with a strong personal narrative that aligns well with the above-noted objective are more likely to be selected. Please avoid submitting mere descriptions of where you have lived or visited; we want to know about your life and personal experience IN these places. We want your stories whether your passport originates in Africa, North/South/Central America, Europe, West Asia etc., but please note the focus of this anthology is on the stories of Black women expatriates. Writers will be paid $100 US dollars upon acceptance of their stories. Writers will be required to sign a waiver that both certifies that their contribution is original, unpublished non-fiction of their own creation and that the publisher will maintain exclusive copyright of submitted work. Writers will be entitled to 2 free copies of the finished publication and will be given writer credit for their accepted submitted works. No other remuneration or benefit will be awarded to the writer. The writer reserves the right to request publisher permission for use of published works. Please send all submissions (2000-5000 words, typed, double-spaced, arial or times new roman font, 12pt font size, MS Word .doc or .docx ONLY), including a brief paragraph-long bio about the author, to expat.black.women@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is JUNE 15, 2013. The planned release of the anthology in paperback and e-book formats is DECEMBER 2013.
