<Netkat@aol.com> Date: Sun, 9 Nov 1997 I read an article on the electronic _Mail and Guardian_ late last week that discusses human rights abuses in Cameroon following the recently held elections. The elections were boycotted by most oppostion parties and no outsiders would even serve as observers. The article states that since the elctions government forces have launched a series of atrocities against oppostion supporters mostly in the North West Province and the North Province. There have been reports of torture and villages being blockaded by troops not allowing anyone to go in or out of the village. The article reports of of looting and torture in Pinyin (in the North West), an SDF oppositon stronghold. I have heard from a friend who's family lives in Pinyin that family membres who live outside of Pinyin have been unable to gain access to the village. Does anyone have any substantiating information for this situation in Cameroon?
