[1] Date: Wed, 05 Nov 1997 From: Ralph Austen, University of Chicago <wwb3@midway.uchicago.edu> I made a similar request in September. Are there any really great articles on post-1994 developments? [2] Date: Wed, 05 Nov 1997 From: Dean Curry <Dcurry@mcis.messiah.edu> Patti Waldmer's _Anatomy of a Miracle: The End of Apartheid and the Birth of the New South Africa (Norton, 1997) is excellent. [3] Date: Wed, 5 Nov 1997 From: Michael Tetelman, Northwestern University <tetel@nwu.edu> In regard to the course on "Modern South Africa," one source that might be useful is Nelson Mandela's autobiography _Long Walk to Freedom_. The last hundred pages or so cover his release from Robben Island, ANC-NP negotiations leading up to the 1994 democratic election, and political violence occurring during the early 1990s. It is a fairly general account but very readable, and undergraduates seem to like it quite a bit.
