Sent: Friday, January 21, 2011 6:25 AM Subject: Place-linked database of Africa research Don Osborn dzo@bisharat.net Is there any kind of database or meta-search capacity to list research, articles, and other publication based on precise geographic location in Africa? I'm doing some exploratory research related to land use, and it would be helpful to be able to call up at one time a range of research done on particular locations. In other words, a way to check a region of a country, its districts and individual communities, for research in all disciplines, development agency reports, and other publications. In past interdisciplinary research I have used a combination of topical databases and lookup of cited resources from physical journals and books available in a university library. With the ever-growing number of publications, expansion of databases covering those, and innovation of ways to access all of these digitally, I am wondering if anyone has tried to index them geographically, perhaps link them to digital maps (per a kind of geographic information system interface), and make them available online.
