Dear Kenda, The question of what constitutes a valid source of history conjures up memories of the contempt some scholars of yesteryear held about oral tradition, folktales, etc. in the process of reconstructing African history. I think the important question to ask here is: Can Facebook literature pass the validity test if put side by side with other historical sources? In my opinion, I will say, YES! What you see on Facebook about *Matatu* is an extension of the rich but sophisticated information you will ordinarily see on the body of the minibuses or the verbal and body language of *makanga*/*mananba* (hustlers) as they go about their day-to-day business. Finally, during this era of explosion of information it is up to the researcher to make sense of the information he/she comes across and convince the reader that his/her source is reliable.
