First, I don't represent the NGO in Ghana. For me, the question of compensation (or reparation) should not be framed within the value system of the same system that produced the exploitation. There can never be compensation for enslavement, but we need to change the system that created the exploitation in the first place. In my opinion, it can begin with debt cancellation, fair trade policy (with high income countries, eliminating subsidies on their agricultural sector) and also partnership with least-developed countries in developing institutional capacity, for instance, in transfer of technology, among other things. However, the powerful countries will not cooperate on these matters without mass mobilization and pressure, if at all.
