University of Edinburgh (sara.dorman@ed.ac.uk) AFRICAN AFFAIRS BEST NEWCOMER PRIZE African Affairs is the world's longest established and highest impact African studies journal. The editors of the journal are pleased to announce a new, annual prize of £1000 for the best article the journal publishes by an academic in Africa. The aim of the prize is to encourage quality submissions from African universities in countries which have a strong research potential, but which do not normally submit papers to the journal. Entry to the competition will be by invitation only. If you are interested in participating, please contact African Affairs by email (african.affairs@ncl.ac.uk) for an entry form. This 'expression of interest' form will require your head of department to outline why your department is a good candidate for inclusion in the competition, and to provide a profile of your department's research interests. Successful departments will then be asked to submit a single paper for inclusion in the competition following a process of internal peer review. Before applying, please consult our website at www.afraf.oupjournals.org for information on the types of article the journal prefers to publish. The deadline for submitting completed expression of interest forms is 10 January 2008.
