<elliott10021@yahoo.com> Former UN civil servant George Ivan Smith, an Australian, has thrown some light on Amin's rise. There is a reference to his conclusions in a book called "Ghosts of Kampala" at: http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/dept/scwmss/wmss/online/modern/smith/smith.html The book is apparently out of print, but may be found in libraries. You might also look for the papers of US diplomats who were in Uganda at the time. One told a couple of UN-based journalists, on background, that they rather resented rumors circulating here that the US, rather than Britain and an ally, was behind the fall of Obote.
