<iderezen@umich.edu> There is a reference in Wyatt MacGaffey's _Religion and Society in Central Africa_ to the work of Fortes ("On the Concept of Person among the Tallensi" in _La Notion de Personne en Afrique Noire_1973) about certain crocodiles who were considered "persons" and had to be given proper burials.
