<andrejko@wpr.org> African Music Now on Public Radio with "Higher Ground" Higher Ground with host Jonathan Overby is a brand new program on Wisconsin Public Radio that regularly features African music. Every Saturday night, from 7-10 p.m., artists such as Habib Koité, the Soweto Gospel Choir or Angélique Kidjo, and more can be heard on the show. This is part of the program's new focus on music with African roots. This new format was meant to answer a need for "danceable" music on WPR while preserving the mission of the old Higher Ground: to build bridges between cultures. For more than a decade Higher Ground was a live variety show featuring Wisconsin performers every Saturday nights. In the past few months the focus has changed entirely to Afro-centric music, including reggae, Brazilian folk/Pop, African folk/pop, New Orleans music, Gospel, Caribbean music and others. The new format includes interviews and studio performances by guests like Togolese Yawo Attivor or Moroccan band Aza. A Higher Ground podcast is currently in the works that will allow listeners to hear even more from our featured artists. To find out more about the Higher Ground podcast, or to read about the Higher Ground features and play list, go to the website at www.wpr.org/higherground Higher Ground is broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio (WHAD 90.7FM - Milwaukee, WI). The program is also streamed live on Saturday nights, 7-10 p.m., on the WPR website at www.wpr.org <http://www.wpr.org/> For more information, contact Associate Producer Mathilde Andrejko at (608) 263-4116, andrejko@wpr.org <mailto:andrejko@wpr.org>
