<vpasley@hotmail.com> I have some questions regarding the film and was wondering whether anyone would be willing to share insights or information. In addition to the controversy sparked by having a film dramatize the role of Africans in the slave trade: --the historical veracity of the depiction of the Amazons --to what extent the film depends on a proleptic function, i.e., much of its meaning is based on our current knowledge of slavery and the Middle Passage and perhaps especially on the American experience (which I think is nicely dramatized in the use of song as a form of survival and resistance) --implications for current debates about reparations --what was the reception to the film in Africa, in the US, in Europe? Thank you in advance for any responses.
