University of Toronto <stephen.rockel@utoronto.ca> Iliffe (_Modern History of Tanganyika_, 238-9) has an interesting discussion of "bom" on the Tanzania coast at Saadani and Bagamoyo in German times. It certainly seems to have been inspired by German military drill, and was performed by ngoma ya kihuni, "the hooligan's dance society" in honour of the Kaiser in 1911. Iliffe doesn't mention Comorians. Ngoma ya kihuni was apparently a "multi-tribal" dance group. Given the places mentioned, I would be surprised if there was not a significant Nyamwezi connection.
