<josephon@admin.stedwards.edu> I am revising a History of Africa course into a History and Cultures of Africa course. One of the topics I would like to cover is popular culture, and I am looking for sources from which I might draw in compiling a reader. I also would be delighted to find appropriate non-print materials. I am familiar with Karin Barber (ed.), _Readings in African Popular Culture_ (Indiana Univ. Pr., 1997). Some of the readings fit my purposes, but almost all are from academic journals so they can be difficult for students to read and sometimes rather stilted and technical. I wish I could find other sources with more accessible articles on the same sorts of subjects. I certainly have no objection to scholarly articles, but the coverage of popular culture will last only 1-2 weeks and thus comprise a small portion of the course, which is designed for undergraduates filling a distribution requirement in World Cultures and Civilizations. I will be grateful for any suggestions.
