Accelerated Reader is a very popular program in Chicago. A lot of teachers swear by it, saying that it promotes a real love of reading while giving kids lots of reason to practice. Another group of teachers, however, disagree radically. They say that it is an artificial system that does not internalize a love of reading and does not promote reflective thinking about books. I am in a position where I have to make a recommendation about it and am torn between the two positions. Could I get some ideas from the EDTECH community? Jay Mulberry jay@oddjob.uchicago.edu Jay F.
