You can look at buying an iMac and a copy of OSX server and have an incerdibly stablw and easy to set up web server running Apache, etc. You could set up a Linux box and run Apache on it. NT is an option, with IIS 4.0, although it is not as faast and/or secure as the other choices. I am in the same process this summer. I will be going the iMac with OSX on it as it is easier to set up and I don't have any extra time to config a traditional Unix box (mostly due to my ignorance).
