Carol As already Tyson inferred in his response, hyperlinks can be either absolute or relative (Yyson called them "non-absolute). An absolute path refers to the total, specific address. For example, using my website, http://www.jps.net/bmoon/pact/mainpage.html Your references that include your hard drive are absolute addresses. However, within a directory, you can use an abbreviated form. (Check out a webpage design reference for specifics. I use an editior so I've forgotten the specific context. The following is only an example.) A relative reference that would send me to one of the directories within the directory pact would be something like pact/classes/index.html A relative reference that would send me up to the bmoon directory is something like ../index.html When you use the truncated form, your work can be moved from one server to another without redoing all of the addresses. For example, my school's site is on my personal site. However, I also save it to disk and send it to the district office to be uploaded. Since all of my references within my site are relative, the website is "portable". (I don't have FTP privileges for the District site which is still under development). I hope this makes the subject a little clearer. Bruce Moon ILP Natomas Charter School Sacramento, CA bmoon@jps.net EDTECH has changed addresses. The new list address is EDTECH@H-NET.MSU.EDU. All subscription commands should be sent to LISTSERV@H-NET.MSU.EDU.
