I am going to express a viewpoint, pretty obvious I think, that has been missed by the "visionaries" of changing schools that I have listened to or read articles they published. I would like to use this in an article at some point, and may use this posting to lay claim to ownership of this idea. If this has appeared in print already, I would like to know about it. Idea expressed by visionaries - schools without walls, students using telecommunications, video and video conferencing to learn from home. What do mom and dad have to say about this? They are going to leave their elementary (or even high school student) home alone while both parents are at work? Hire a babysitter? Don't think so.... Many parents are glad when their children start school because the babysitter/daycare provider costs are getting very high. Not many parents choose to homeschool, and this is what the "schools without walls" concept would be like. Middle school and high school students like to leave school during the day now, what would they do if they were "home alone?"
