Here's another perspective on plagiarism, in the form of two guidelines: Suppose you want to research on X. 1. What you already know about X can be used without worrying about plagiarism. However, you may want to include a footnote to guide readers to literature relevant to the point you are making. 2. What you learn about X in the process of research needs a citation -- if you use that information in your book/article/review (or whatever). In my humble opinion, if it's paraphrased and cited, you have not plagiarized--the cite gives credit where credit it due. If you are using someone else's words without appropriate attribution, that would constitute plagiarism. EDTECH has changed addresses. The new list address is EDTECH@H-NET.MSU.EDU.
