Andrew, I'd disagree wholeheartedly that the time spent is equal. Time spent in the "classroom" is far greater online than face to face. In a face to face sitting you typically are in class three hours per week. In an online course you are engaged in front of your computer a couple of hours each day. Now, if you are merely talking about direct interaction with an instructor -- that time is far less online as schedules rarely coincide to allow for direct access to the instructor. That's one of the advantages to online learning -- it's less structured so it allows the student to spend time in studies whenever s/he has available (3AM if need be). It's also it's downfall. If a student isn't highly organized they easily get behind and overwhelmed. I think you need to probe a bit more with your question. Especially considering that it's implication is false (time spent in classroom is equal). ******* Jeff Hogan, M.S.
