I am hoping to recommend Educational Technology > folks for them to follow on Twitter. Can you make a recommendation for my > class? Here's how I get pre-service teachers started on Twitter: http://edweb.sdsu.edu/Courses/EDTEC470/s10/resources/twitter.htm It's part of a larger assignment about creating a Personalized Learning System (not Network) http://edweb.sdsu.edu/Courses/EDTEC470/s10/resources/pls.htm Here are some sample write-ups from last semester's students. http://sites.google.com/site/canawebsiteproject/edtec-470-projects/personal- learning-system http://sites.google.com/site/blancablancosite/edtec-470-projects/personal- learning-system http://sites.google.com/site/cmbrownsite/personal-learning-system http://sites.google.com/site/savannahdelorenzo/edtec-470-projects/personal- learning-system My experience has been that for some student teachers, Twitter is a hard sell. It carries a lot of reputational baggage as nothing but celebrity trivia. Many students seem to take things more seriously than those in previous years and with the pressures on them during their credential year, they don't have a lot of patience for time wasting. I also find I have to remind myself about how different their daily life is from mine (and probably yours). While I spend long stretches of time working in front of a screen with tweets running in the background, they're out there teaching classes, taking classes or waiting tables. For them, watching Twitter is an add-on to an already busy day. Still, I'm obviously a great believer in Twitter as a gateway to new ideas and resources and will continue to promote it.
