Digital Storytelling Summer Institute, July 19-23 Salem State College Cross Listed as Special Topics in Writing [English 833-92 (1655)] and Integrating Technology in the Reading Classroom [Education 877N-91 (1625)] To register go to http://www.salemstate.edu/academics/2804.php § Learn New, Free Digital Technologies * Tell Your Stories in a Variety of Formats * Analyze How Changing the Medium Changes the Message * Integrate Digital Stories into your Classes * Have your Students Create Digital Stories * Use Digital Stories to Relate Historical, Scientific and Social Phenomenon What is a digital story and how are digital narratives affecting our understanding of literacy? What does it mean to be a reader and what does it mean to be a writer in the digital age? In this one-week institute we will create digital stories using a variety of tools, most of them freely available. We will then analyze the texts that we create from the perspective of reading, writing, and digital literacy. This Summer Institute is a hands-on, minds-on workshop in designing, composing, editing, and publishing digital stories. Participants will produce a 5-10 minute digital story and either a short apologia or lesson plan for incorporating digital stories in the classroom.
