First of all Doreen I wanted to commend you on a well thought out articulated letter of introduction and/or solicitation. We tire of getting homework requests from new subscribers who put little or no thought into the question sent their way. Often times it is copied verbatim from the instructors question. That said, This is a postmodern society and our students are most definitely postmodern. Portable devices have great advantages in higher education. They can be used as classroom response systems (instructor asks students questions and they text their response), those that are integrated with twitter can tweet their professor with feedback if solicited. Some students (especially in large classrooms) are too shy to ask questions. If the instructor has them tweet the question to them it remains anonymous - yet gets addressed. A simple google will get you a mazillion hits. Here is a pretty good paper written on the very subject you query: http://www.osra.org/2007/papers/brookshire.pdf Lastly, kudos to pursuing your MSN. That is going to be highly rewarding (both intrinsically and financially). We typically hire 1 - 3 instructors per year in our Nursing program. Growth, transfer and retirement always seems to leave openings. Can you imagine doing patient charting with an ipod? How much time would that save? ******* Jeff Hogan, M.S.
