Nice compilation of 2.0 tools! Thanks for sharing it. I definitely agree with the idea of changing old, tired low-level thinking assignments to challenge students to synthesize, create and understand at a deeper level. I think the expectations of standards for "publish" and "done" need to be decided in advance. This could be a school-wide decision, but more likely it is one that each classroom teacher decides and shares with his or her students. I define publish as meaning "not further changeable." If that's what students are striving for, I think they need layers of submitting for edits prior to publishing. In my school, students go through a process of editing multiple drafts before finishing a project. Once my students have created their book trailers, for example, we check it against a rubric before posting to SchoolTube. Using the rubric is as much the lesson as creating the trailer. I don't like the idea that once students hand something in, they're finished with it and can forget about it. I prefer students to use the phrase, "When you're done, you've just begun" because so many of them rush to be finished and move on to something else, resisting the concept of editing. In addition, reflection and evaluation is a key part of any research process. On the other hand, being finished with something because the deadline has passed may be something students have to learn to live with. Another issue with publishing things online is that they become part of the great morass of fodder for plagiarism.
