Brian, I feel your pain, and yes, I have had DeployStudio working. It is cantankerous and finicky. I was not able to get it going on my own, but fortunately, one of my regional service center support people (a person of infinite patience) had set it up successfully several times. We had a stable version up and running, and were able to do some cloning, and then the server housing it bit the dust. The hardest part was getting a proper NBI boot image file. I haven't had time to get it going properly again, but there are three districts in our Northeast Utah region which use it regularly. After NetRestore's development was ended by Bombich software, I looked around for other solutions, including commercial solutions available. Symantec's Altiris Deployment Solution claims to have Macintosh cloning capability (now? future?) but I haven't checked it out. During my investigation, I came across another commercial product (can't remember the name) which handled Macs, Win, and Linux, but it was priced way beyond my budget; seems like it was in the $10,000 range or more. There is also Clonezilla (open source), but it doesn't scale to large deployments, won't clone a hard drive to a smaller target disk, doesn't do differential cloning (which Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper will do) and has other drawbacks. I have not tried Clonezilla. For one-to-one cloning of PCs, I have used the Linux mclone (mass clone) utility over the network. Since it does block level copying, it seems like it should work with Intel macs, but I have had no success. I can boot the Intel Mac with a Linux boot disk, but the resultant imaged computers won't boot. I think the problem has to do with the EFI partition used by Apple.
